School of Biological Sciences Deadline Policy

As a matter of fairness to all students, the School of Biological Sciences expects assignments in all units to be submitted by the scheduled due dates. Due dates ensure that everyone has the same opportunity to work on assignments, and that everyone is playing by the same rules. The following procedures apply to all units offered by the school (all BIO, GEN & SCM units).

  1. Assignments submitted after a due date and time are penalised at the rate of 10% of the maximum mark for each day (or part thereof) they are late.
  2. The School recognises that serious medical or personal circumstances may warrant extensions of deadlines for individual students. Requests for such extensions must be made in writing in accordance with the Faculty of Science Special Consideration Policy.  Requests for Special Consideration for semester based assessments must be submitted to the unit coordinator.
  3. Exceptions to deadlines are not ordinarily granted for common and minor ailments.  It is the responsibility of students to maintain an appropriate pace with their assignments so that minor ailments just before a deadline do not prevent submission of an assignment.
  4. Exceptions to deadlines are not granted for computer problems or 'Blackboard' upload problems. It is the responsibility of students to maintain backup computer files and to know where alternative computer and printer resources are available on campus.  Any issues with 'Blackboard' should be resolved with MUSO Support  well in advance of any due date.
