Swordtail fish (Xiphophophorus birchmanni), Mexico. Work carried out in collaboration with Heidi Fisher (Boston University) and Gil Rosenthal (Texas A & M) revealed how mate recognition in this species was being compromised by anthropogenic disturbance to the chemical environment.

Anthropogenic impacts on animal mating systems

My interests in sexual selection and speciation have extended to testing how changes to the environment might disrupt animal mating systems, leading to species breakdown and/or a relaxation in the strength of sexual selection.
