Leo examined multimodal signalling in humans. He learnt all about the fantastic software available for generating faces and recording voices. As part of his project, Leo also got a lot of experience measuring humans.
Nicholas Symons

Nick investigated parental care in the Australian desert goby and spent most of his time sifting through hours of video footage or, otherwise, scrubbing fish tanks.
Kristina Ficken

Kristy studied the effects of water chemistry on frog diversity and abundance in Victoria. Here, she demonstrates her wading skills.
Juni Hoel
Honours student 2008
Supervisors: Dr. Bob Wong and Dr. Alan Lill
Juni worked on roost site selection and anti-predator behaviour in the invasive common myna. She spent most of the time, driving around Melbourne and trying to devise ways to test the anti-predator response of her test subjects.
Lee Harrison

Supervisor: Dr. Phil Byrne
Lee completed a project examining the role of chemical communication in toadlets. As part of her project, Lee got to spend time playing around with expensive pieces of equipment from the School of Chemistry.
Will Wettenhall
Honours student 2008
Supervisor: Dr. Phil Byrne
Will completed a project investigating the impact of environmental pH on the survival, growth and performance of Australian terrestrial toadlets. Will spent most of his time locked away in a constant temperature room tending to hundreds of tadpoles.
Zac Billingham
Honours student, 2007-8
(co-supervised by Dr. Bob Wong and Dr. David Chapple, Museum Victoria)
Zac, a fanatical herpetologist, commenced his honours year intending to work on kin recognition in Egernia lizards but ended up completing an exciting project on group recognition in a sub-social cockroach. Zac is now working for a private water-testing company here in Melbourne.
Huon Clark
Honours student, 2007-8
(co-supervised by Dr. Bob Wong and Dr. Nick Bond)
Huon investigated habitat selection and behaviour in carp gudgeons. Huon’s parents named him after a species of Tasmanian conifer known as the Huon Pine (an extremely slow-growing soft-wood). Huon recently moved up to the Northern Territory where he is busy enjoying the tropical sun.
Will Sowersby
Honours student, 2007
(co-supervised by Dr. Bob Wong and Dr. Ross Thompson)
Will completed an honours thesis looking at habitat selection in minnows, Galaxias spp. Will is currently taking a well-earned break from science and is travelling the world.
Bec Wellard
Honours student, 2007
Bec completed her honours project looking at the impact of boat traffic on acoustic communication in dolphins in Port Phillip Bay in collaboration with The Dolphin Research Institute. After receiving a highly competitive scholarship, she is now working on dolphins at Ocean Park in Hong Kong with researchers from The National University of Singapore.
