Week 9: Analysing Data
Purpose & Objectives
Students will use the data they have plotted, to calculate the size of their leopard’s territory. They will also calculate the local leopard density using the data from the camera trap survey. All the information they have learnt to-date will be revised and used to communicate the work they have done so far in a written project proposal.
Classroom activity
- Plot the final data points from their leopard.
- As a class, calculate the area of their leopard and the density of the leopard population and add this information to the class display.
Independent activity
To revise the coursework students write an individual project proposal for their leopard project, an example of which is in the resource manual. The proposal should include, background information, a summary of the results they have obtained so far and indicate what future work should be done. A budget and list of the personnel involved (including class members) should also be attached. These proposals should be first marked internally by the school and the top three proposals then submitted to the MunYa Wana Leopard Project. A prize will be presented for the best project proposal at the concluding lecture.
