Week 1: Introductory Lecture (Monash University, Clayton)
Purpose & Objectives
This lecture, held on campus at Monash University, Clayton, will introduce students and teachers to the MunYaWana Leopard Project. It will put the Interactive School Project into context and provide all relevant background information. No prior knowledge of leopards or conservation techniques is required. The lecture will introduce the students to the researchers behind the project, the research site, the relevant flora and fauna of the area, the motivation behind the project, the research techniques used and the ultimate aims of the project. The techniques of radio telemetry and use of GPS systems will be introduced and students will begin tracking their leopard by viewing video footage of a collar being fitted. Following this, students and teachers will have the opportunity to ask questions.
Classroom activity
- Attend lecture.
- Pin up the large format map that will be used for tracking your leopard.
