![]() Leopard web news archiveJuly 2006Cubs collar: Both Duzi's cubs (females) are now collared, incl Tatu the 40th leopard collared in the study. The other cub is called Sepi. Meet the People: Iranian biologist Houman Jowkar joins the project for 4 weeks of training in capture and immob of carnivores for WCS's project on Asiatic cheetahs in Iran.. Mkhuze: one of the Mkhuze males was poached. The poacher buried the GPS collar but he was captured and the collar & skin recovered. He is in custody awaiting court case.. Frodo's injury: Tristain and Jaco had to remove Frodo's collar. He had incurred an injury on the neck (possibly from ducking fences) which the collar was aggravating. They darted & treated him and released him without the collar to ensure it doesnt exacerbate the wound. We'll try to re-capture him once he has fully recovered. 19th July: Tristan Dickerson's bio added to Meet the People. 1st June: Third leopard collared in Mkhuze. Male 4-6 years weighing in at 56 Kg. He has been named Dekela. 29th May: Second leopard collared in Mkhuze. A young female, weighing in at only 19 Kg. She has been named Thobane, after the stream she was caught in. May 27th: First Leopard collared in Mkhuze. Umganu Ngoye has been seen with a four week old cub. October 2005Mkhuze: We now have five collars deployed in Mkhuze including two new GPS collars and we hope to deploy another five in the coming months.
