  • Congratulations

    The Faculty of Science Workplace Health, Safety and Environment Award for 2009 has been awarded to Leesa Hughes and Laura Boucher in the School of Biological Sciences. 

    The School of Biological Sciences, considered the Environment and Manual Handling, when submitting their application. Funding awarded to the school will be used to motorise an existing trolley used for collecting water generated by flushing safety showers and eyewash units for the entire School of Biological Sciences. In total, this is *500 litres of water per fortnight.*

  • Fulbright Postgraduate Scholarship

    Congratulations to Kim Mosse Kim has been awarded a Fulbright Postgraduate Scholarship.

    Kim is a PhD student with Tim Cavagnaro (School of Biological Sciences) and Tony Patti (School of Applied Sciences and Engineering), and is studying the effects of winery waste water on soil and plant health. As a result of this prestigious award Kim will be spending most of 2010 at the University of California Davis working with the Department of Oenology and Viticulture.

    Dr Jill Lancaster, an Aquatic Ecologist from the School of Biological Sciences, University of Edinburgh has recently joined the school.

    Dr David Chapple has recently joined the school as a Lecturer. Dr Chapple was previously an ARC Postdoctoral Fellow, (Herpetology) at Museum Victoria.

    Juliey Beckmann has been awarded the degree of Doctor of Philosophy for her thesis "Genetic, morphological and ecological variation among populations of agile antechinus that differ in female teat-number".

    Drs Tim Cavagnaro & Ros Gleadow and Dr Julie Cliff (Faculty of Medicinm Universidade Eduardi Mondlane Maputo, Mozambique) have been awarded an AusAid grant for a project on "Toxic crops in a high CO2 world: Mozambique a case study."

    Drs Patrick Baker and Bec Miller on successfully obtaining funding from the Herman Slade Foundation.

    Unlocking century-scale climate signals using daily stem growth and wood property responses in native Tasmanian rainforests. (Baker)
