The Faculty of Science Mechanical Workshop No. 1 offers a range of specialised services to staff, students and external clients, including:

  • Fabrication of scientific equipment and components to specification
  • Custom design of specialised items
  • Prototyping
  • Precision machining of metals, plastics, etc.
  • Woodworking

Equipment

The Workshop is equipped with a range of high-quality machines, including:

  • Lathes (including high-speed collet lathe),
  • Guillotine (up to 3.175mm steel)
  • Milling machines (Deckel, Saimp, Yong Chin)

Staff and students with appropriate training and qualifications may on occasion, subject to the approval of the Workshop Manager and compliance with OH&S requirements, be allowed to make use of some of these machines.
