Redevelopment Proposal

To restore and enhance the range of habitats and experimental facilities available in the Jock Marshall Reserve in order to foster teaching and research, and to provide a resource for public outreach.

Specific Developments

Restored Lake with new sampling piers

  • To re-establish native vegetation
  • To re-establish a resident population of grazing marsupials
  • To establish a world class example of wi-fi remote sensing technology.
  • To restore a range of aquatic habitats in the existing JMR dam.
  • Development of a treatment wetland at the head of the dam.
  • To improve access to the existing and proposed habitats.
  • To generate signage and interpretive materials to advertise activities in the JMR

Grant success for JMR initiative

Monash Science Centre and Dr Ross Thompson are pleased to announce that they have been successful in obtaining a federal government ASISTM (Australian School Innovation in Science, Technology and Mathematics) grant. The funded project, Animated Interactive Water Science brings students and teachers to the Jock Marshall Reserve to learn about water chemistry and aquatic health. After sampling real environments the students are able to return to their classrooms and gather further real data, via a 3D computer animated interface with remote water quality sensors in the Reserve. This project combines the latest remote sensing technology with an interactive computer environment and real ongoing research to engage high schools students and enthuse them about going on in science.
