Dean's Excellence in Teaching Award Dr Gerry Rayner has been awarded a Dean's Excellence in Teaching Award for 2009. The citation for this flagged Gerry's leadership in the development and implementation of programs to motivate students and engage them with the University and their learning. Congratulations Drs Tim Cavagnaro & Ros Gleadow and Dr Julie Cliff (Faculty of Medicinm Universidade Eduardi Mondalan Maputo, Mozambique) have been awarded an AusAid grant for a project on "Toxic crops in a high CO2 world: Mozambique a case study" Congratulations to Drs Patrick Baker and Bec Miller on successfully obtaining funding from the Herman Slade Foundation. Unlocking century-scale climate signals using daily stem growth and wood property responses in native Tasmanian rainforests. (Baker) Characterising heat production in plants: mechanisms and its role in pollination.(Miller) New staff Welcome to: Dr Damian Dowling (MRF) has recently joined the School. Dr Dowling previously held a postdoctoral postion in the Centre for Evolutionary Biology, University of Western Australia. His research interests lie in the fields of evolutionary biology and ecology. Dr Magdalena Nystrand (Swedish Research Council Postdoctoral Fellow) has joined the School. Dr Nystrand interest lies in evolutionary biology, behavioural ecology and conservation. Her current research focuses on the genetics underlying a number of fitness components. Dr Jill Lancaster, an Aquatic Ecologist from tjhe School of Biological Sciences, University of Edinburgh will join the School as Lecturer in July 2009. New Postgraduate Students rule!
